OpenAI is set to transform ChatGPT from a simple conversational bot into a full-fledged super app. The company intends to integrate coding capabilities, visual generation, and autonomous AI agents that can perform tasks on behalf of users.
New Toolset and User Intent
Central to the shift is Codex, OpenAI's coding tool, alongside advanced AI agents designed to understand user intent and direct them to appropriate functionalities. These agents will also take over certain tasks directly, making the platform more proactive. Changes to both web and mobile apps are expected to roll out in the coming weeks.
Revenue Push Toward Enterprise
Despite ChatGPT's large user base, many still access it for free, pushing OpenAI to enhance its revenue model. The company is particularly focused on growing enterprise subscriptions, which already account for a significant portion of income. By year-end, that share is projected to increase further. The redesign will also make third-party app referrals more prominent, turning ChatGPT into a gateway for external services.
