Türkiye’s Ministry of National Education scheduled the publication of 2026 LGS high-school placement results and vacant quotas for August 5. This report summarizes the ministry’s official calendar and the transfer process that follows the initial placement. It does not assume that the result screen is live without a separate official confirmation.
First transfer applications run from August 5 to 7
The remaining places at high schools are due to be announced together with the initial placement results. Applications for the first transfer round will be accepted from August 5 through August 7, and the outcome is scheduled for August 10. The second transfer round will run from August 10 through August 12, with results due on August 14.
Students who remain without a school after both transfer rounds may apply to provincial and district student placement and transfer commissions between August 17 and August 26. The commissions are expected to complete their placements on August 28. Boarding applications will be accepted by schools and institutions from August 31 through September 3, and boarding placement results are scheduled for September 4.
994,358 students attended the central examination
A total of 1,022,658 students applied for the 2026 central LGS examination. According to the ministry, 994,358 candidates attended, producing a participation rate of 97.23%. The examination was held at 4,244 schools in 81 provinces and 920 districts in Türkiye, as well as at 11 examination centers in eight other countries.
The test contained 90 questions: 50 in the verbal section and 40 in the quantitative section. The ministry reported that 452 students answered every question correctly and achieved the maximum score of 500. These figures describe examination performance. School placement is separately determined through student preferences, score superiority, available quotas and the additional rules in the placement guide.
How ties are resolved in central placement
Placement at schools that admit students through the central examination is based on examination-score superiority and the candidate’s preference order. Students could select up to 10 schools in this group. When candidates have equal scores, the guide applies a sequence of tie-breakers: school achievement score, year-end achievement scores for grades eight, seven and six, fewer unexcused absences in grade eight and preference priority. If equality remains, the younger student receives priority.
Registration area matters in local placement
Local placement is organized through registration areas created according to school type, capacity and location. The student’s home address, school achievement score and number of unexcused absence days are used in the assessment. If candidates remain equal, their year-end achievement scores for grades eight, seven and six are considered in that order.
All students were required to begin with the local-placement preference screen. They could choose up to five schools, provided that the first three were inside their registration area, and could select no more than three schools of the same type. After completing local choices, eligible students could also select up to 10 centrally admitting schools and up to five boarding schools, bringing the possible total to 20 preferences.
Transfer rounds allow three choices in each group
In both transfer rounds, students may make up to three choices in each of the central-examination, local-placement and boarding-school groups. Students who were not placed in any of their original local choices must select their first two local transfer options from their registration area and may select no more than two schools of the same type.
If the ministry announces a later change to the dates or procedure, the newest official notice will take precedence. Placement outcomes and vacant-quota information should be checked through the ministry’s official result and announcement channels.
