Türkiye’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued strong-wind and storm warnings for parts of western Türkiye on Wednesday, July 29. The land warning covers Çanakkale, Balıkesir, İzmir and Manisa, while a separate marine notice covers the Aegean Sea and the western part of the Western Mediterranean.
Wind may reach 70 kilometers per hour on land
According to meteorological warning number 416, northerly and northeasterly winds are expected across Çanakkale, Balıkesir, İzmir and Manisa between 10:00 and 23:59 local time on July 29. Speeds are forecast at 40 to 60 kilometers per hour, with localized gusts reaching 70 kilometers per hour.
The agency lists disrupted transport, flying roof materials and falling trees or utility poles among the possible consequences. Residents should secure loose objects, avoid standing close to trees and unstable structures, and follow current notices from local authorities. The forecast is a risk warning; it does not mean that every district will experience the strongest gusts.
Storm warning for the Aegean and Antalya Gulf
A separate marine warning says winds in the northern and southern Aegean may reach force 6 to 8, corresponding to about 50 to 75 kilometers per hour, from the afternoon of July 29. The storm is expected to weaken after midday on July 31. In the western part of the Western Mediterranean, including the Antalya Gulf, similar conditions are expected from the first hours of July 29, with the warning there ending around midday.
The marine notice identifies transport disruption as the primary risk. Ferry operators, fishing vessels and other maritime users may change schedules according to local conditions. Travelers should check official operator announcements before departure rather than relying only on a general regional forecast.
Fire-risk warning accompanies the forecast
Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı also urged the public to take extra care because strong wind can accelerate a fire and make containment more difficult. Anadolu Agency reported that winds in several provinces, especially coastal areas, could approach 80 kilometers per hour during the week.
The minister asked people not to light fires or burn stubble in open areas and to avoid behavior that could ignite dry vegetation. The warning is especially relevant where high temperatures, low humidity and wind occur together. Smoke, fire or a suspicious situation near forest land should be reported to emergency services without delay.
What residents should follow
Conditions can vary considerably within the warned provinces. People should monitor the latest General Directorate of Meteorology bulletins and announcements from governorates, municipalities and transport operators. Outdoor plans, coastal journeys and agricultural work may need to be adjusted if local warnings intensify.
The current land warning is limited to July 29, while the Aegean marine warning extends into July 31. Any extension, cancellation or change should be verified through official channels because weather warnings can be updated as new observations become available.
