Halo: Campaign Evolved is scheduled to launch globally on July 28, 2026, bringing a rebuilt version of the original Halo campaign to Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam and PlayStation 5. Xbox says the standard release unlocks at 8:00 a.m. PDT, which corresponds to 6:00 p.m. in Türkiye. The launch is especially notable because it places the mainline Halo experience on a PlayStation console for the first time.
A campaign remake rather than a multiplayer package
Halo Studios describes Campaign Evolved as a modernized remake of the campaign from Halo: Combat Evolved. The release focuses on the story experience and should not be confused with a full remake of the original multiplayer suite. Official product pages say the campaign has been rebuilt with updated visuals, cinematics, controls and re-recorded audio while retaining the basic structure and tone of the 2001 game.
The remake adds a new three-mission adventure featuring Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. It also expands the available arsenal, vehicles and enemy encounters. Optional gameplay modifiers known as Skulls return, giving players ways to change difficulty and combat rules on repeat playthroughs. Xbox lists two-player local split-screen and online cooperative play for as many as four players among the supported features.
Cross-platform release and subscription access
The game is being released on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam and PlayStation 5. Xbox says cross-play and cross-progression are supported across those platforms, allowing cooperative groups to play together and eligible progress to follow the player. The title is also included on its launch day with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. PlayStation and Steam storefronts list separate standard and premium editions.
Premium-edition buyers received access beginning July 23, five days before the standard launch. That early-access period also produced reports of login, server and performance problems from some PC players. GamesRadar reported that the Steam user rating was mixed during the advance window and cited complaints about crashes and account-login friction. Those reactions describe the early-access period, however, and do not by themselves establish how the wider launch will perform after additional fixes and a larger player population arrive.
Why the PlayStation version matters
Halo has been closely associated with Xbox since the original console launched in 2001. A simultaneous PS5 release therefore represents a significant change in Microsoft’s publishing strategy. The PlayStation Blog highlighted the remake’s additional missions, expanded weapons and campaign updates in a July 23 feature, while the PlayStation Store confirms the same global release schedule.
For players, the practical question is whether the remake balances preservation with modernization. Official descriptions emphasize a faithful campaign foundation, but the added missions, refined controls, broader sandbox and cooperative options are intended to make the experience more approachable on current hardware. The absence of a remade competitive multiplayer mode also narrows the package to players who primarily want the campaign.
The standard edition is expected to unlock later on July 28 according to the official regional timetable. Because storefront availability and service status can change near launch, players should check the Xbox, Steam or PlayStation store in their own region before purchasing or downloading.
