Türkiye generated more electricity than it consumed on August 14, 2026, while wind farms supplied the largest share of the day’s generation mix. According to Anadolu Agency’s report based on data from the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation, or TEİAŞ, total generation reached 1,210,896 megawatt-hours and consumption totaled 1,190,971 megawatt-hours. The arithmetic difference between the two published totals was 19,925 megawatt-hours. The figures describe one completed day in a national grid where supply and demand must be balanced continuously.
Demand peaked at noon
Hourly consumption changed markedly over the course of the day. The highest value was 56,278 megawatt-hours at 12:00, while the lowest was 40,806 megawatt-hours at 06:00. That produced a gap of 15,472 megawatt-hours between the daily peak and trough. These numbers are published as energy consumed during the relevant hours, expressed in megawatt-hours. Read alongside the daily total, they show demand rising from the early morning toward midday. They do not, by themselves, provide a forecast for subsequent hours or days.
Wind led the generation mix
Wind farms ranked first among generation sources with a 21.6 percent share. Reservoir hydropower followed at 20.9 percent, while imported-coal plants accounted for 17.2 percent. Wind and reservoir hydropower together represented 42.5 percent of the day’s reported generation. The percentages apply only to August 14 and should not be treated as a monthly or annual average. Wind conditions, reservoir availability, plant maintenance and the level of demand can all change the ordering of generation sources from one day to another.
Where the figures come from
TEİAŞ operates the Load Dispatch Information System, known by its Turkish initials YTBS, which publishes daily statistics on electricity generation, consumption, peak demand and installed capacity. The operator says the information is collected from transmission-system participants for system-operation purposes. Anadolu Agency’s August 15 report attributes the daily totals and source shares to TEİAŞ. Separately, Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources states that installed electricity capacity stood at 126,113 megawatts at the end of June 2026. Installed capacity is not the same measurement as energy actually produced during a day; it describes the maximum rated capacity available in the system.
How to read the daily difference
A day in which generation is higher than consumption does not automatically mean the grid has a permanent surplus. Daily aggregates are assessed together with imports and exports, storage, plant schedules and system losses. The 19,925-megawatt-hour difference cited here is simply the subtraction of the two published totals. It should not be used on its own to reach firm conclusions about electricity prices, the next day’s fuel mix or long-term security of supply.
The central finding in the August 14 data is therefore narrow but clear: wind was the largest individual source in the reported daily generation mix, and aggregate generation exceeded aggregate consumption. Future daily releases from the Load Dispatch Information System may show a different source order and a different time for peak demand as weather, water availability and system conditions change.
