Ryanair has signed a five-year agreement with Google Cloud to expand its use of cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence tools across the airline. Announced on August 11, 2026, the partnership covers several areas rather than a single application, ranging from employee productivity tools to planning and maintenance operations. Reuters reported that the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Google tools for 35,000 employees
Under the agreement, Google Workspace and Google Cloud services are expected to be rolled out to about 35,000 Ryanair employees. The airline also plans to build custom AI agents through Gemini Enterprise. The stated uses include supporting crew scheduling and some operational decisions, as well as helping teams reduce the effects of disruptions. Neither company said the systems would fully replace human decisions; the announced scope focuses on enterprise tools designed to assist employees.
Airline operations involve many connected variables, including aircraft availability, crews, maintenance requirements and weather. A relatively small delay can therefore affect other flights later in the day. Ryanair's proposed use cases center on evaluating information more quickly and presenting operational teams with organized options. The actual effect on performance can only be assessed after the tools are deployed and measured in daily operations.
DeepMind models for fleet and maintenance work
Ryanair also plans to use AlphaEvolve and WeatherNext, tools developed by Google DeepMind. According to the announced framework, the models will support fleet operations and maintenance scheduling. WeatherNext is associated with weather forecasting, while AlphaEvolve is designed for complex optimization problems. The companies did not provide a detailed timetable for full deployment or disclose the performance targets that will be used to evaluate these tools.
Maintenance planning requires airlines to balance the time an aircraft is out of service with technical and safety requirements. AI-based forecasting and optimization systems can compare possible schedules and scenarios. Final maintenance and flight decisions, however, remain subject to aviation rules and oversight by the airline's authorized teams.
A dual-cloud approach rather than one provider
The Google Cloud agreement does not end Ryanair's use of Amazon Web Services. The airline described its strategy as using two major cloud providers. One stated goal is to reduce the risk that an outage at a single provider could affect all digital operations at the same time. Ryanair has not yet detailed which workloads will run on Google Cloud and which will remain on AWS.
Ryanair also linked the expansion of its digital capacity to its target of carrying 300 million passengers annually by 2034. That figure is a forward-looking company target, not a result already achieved. The success of the five-year agreement can eventually be judged through measurable indicators such as how widely the new tools are integrated, whether disruption times change and how employees use the systems.
The announcement is another example of airlines applying AI beyond customer-facing services and into planning and resource management. Still, proposed benefits should be separated from measured outcomes. Ryanair and Google Cloud have outlined intended use cases, but they have not yet published verified results for cost savings, fewer delays or improved maintenance efficiency.
