Fenerbahce opened the Turkish Super Lig season with a 2-1 away defeat at Genclerbirligi, losing after taking a 1-0 lead.
Milan Skriniar called the loss 'shameful' and said his side panicked after conceding the second goal.
Defensive mistakes prove costly
Skriniar explained that the team rushed after falling behind and had to stick to the game plan. 'We lost the match to ourselves with our mistakes,' he said.
Fenerbahce's Nathan Ake pointed to turnovers that led directly to goals. 'Two goals came from counters after our turnovers. We need to be better as a team,' Ake added.
Players demand improvement
Ake also said similar matches will happen throughout the season, and stressed the importance of organizing the back line. He backed the squad to respond.
