KARDEMİR Karabük Demir Çelik Sanayi ve Ticaret AŞ and two of its subsidiaries have announced plans for solar power plants with a combined direct-current capacity of 120.5 megawatt-peak, or MWp. According to a disclosure published on Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform on October 1, 2026, the projects are expected to require approximately 3.956 billion Turkish liras in investment. The company aims to bring the plants into operation during 2028.
Three companies are included in the plan
The largest share of the program is allocated to the parent company, KARDEMİR. Its planned facility would have 85 megawatts electric, or MWe, of alternating-current capacity and 110.5 MWp of direct-current capacity. Subsidiary Kardökmak Kardemir Döküm Makina Sanayi ve Ticaret AŞ is assigned a 5 MWe/6.5 MWp project. Karçel Kardemir Çelik Yapı İmalat Sanayi ve Ticaret AŞ is assigned a 2.5 MWe/3.5 MWp project. Together, the three facilities would reach 92.5 MWe of alternating-current capacity and 120.5 MWp of direct-current capacity.
KARDEMİR said the acquisition process for the land intended for the solar plants had been completed and that the relevant grid-call letters had been obtained. Project design, environmental impact assessment, zoning and other technical work have also started. Those steps mean the capacity is not yet operational; the company is moving the projects through planning, permitting and engineering stages.
Lower energy costs and a smaller carbon footprint
The company listed three central objectives for the investment: reducing energy costs, increasing the share of renewable sources in total energy consumption and lowering the carbon footprint of KARDEMİR and its subsidiaries. It also linked the program to Türkiye’s 2053 net-zero emissions target and the broader green transformation of industry. KARDEMİR expects the plants to help cover a significant portion of the group’s energy needs with renewable generation.
The investment amount and capacity breakdown were stated in the company’s official disclosure. Anadolu Agency separately reported the 2028 commissioning target, while an October 2 report by Endeks24 confirmed the same capacity allocations, planned spending and status of the technical preparations. The available sources did not provide a projected annual generation figure, a specific yearly cost saving or an estimate of avoided carbon emissions.
Energy transition alongside steel production
KARDEMİR said it is progressing toward an annual steel production target of three million tonnes and wants to transform its energy infrastructure while expanding industrial capacity. The proposed solar plants are intended to contribute directly to the electricity needs of the parent company and its two subsidiaries. The disclosure did not specify the final financing structure, the provinces where each facility will be built or a detailed grid-connection schedule.
If completed as planned, the program would give all three companies renewable generation capacity under one investment framework. The company’s current timetable calls for the plants to enter operation in 2028 after the technical and permitting processes are completed. Future disclosures will be important for tracking environmental and zoning approvals, contractor selection, the pace of capital spending and the final commissioning schedule.
The announcement therefore marks a defined investment plan rather than completed generation capacity. Its measurable elements are the planned 120.5 MWp total capacity, the estimated 3.956 billion-lira expenditure and the 2028 target. Any later changes to cost, capacity or timing will need to be assessed against new company filings.
