The new release also changes parts of the API behavior. Anthropic’s documentation says some older forms of forced tool selection are not supported, while automatic tool selection and operation without tools remain available. Fable 5.1 occupies a different position from Mythos 5.1, which Anthropic discussed in the same announcement. Fable entered general availability, while Mythos was associated with a limited program called Project Glasswing. Anthropic emphasized staged access and additional safeguards for more capable systems. Keeping those release paths separate is important because a generally available product and a controlled research program have different access conditions.
